History

After graduation I went to work for Darrell & Ruth Miller at the Downs News & Times and also worked at the Cellar Door Floral Shop. In 1983 I got married and we later moved to Stockton, KS, and also lived in Plainville for a few years. For the next 20 or so years I worked either full or part-time for the Rooks County Attorney’s Office and Rooks County Sheriff’s Offices. In 2000, after being a single mom for almost 10 years, I met Danny Kennedy of Clay Center, Nebraska. Dan and I were married in 2005 and I now work for a law firm with offices here in Clay Center and also in Hastings. I have recently been “promoted” to being the paralegal in charge of real estate and estate planning, which means that I “get” drive-to work in the Hastings Office 3 days a week. Dan is a Farm Loan Manager for Farm Services Agency, a job that he has held for over 30 years. In late 2010, Dan will “retire” from the Government and we hope to move back to the Downs area.

I have 3 wonderful kids, John, Jesse and Laura, a beautiful granddaughter, Aubrey Madison, 2 step-kids, Michelle and Jim, and 3 step-grandchildren, Joseph, Nyla & Madison.

Memories

Oh wow …. where do I begin! I go to high school sports events now and I think to myself - whatever happened to PEP CLUBS. We took a bus to football and basketball games just for the pep club. And we had “pep club uniforms”!! I remember so many Friday nights coming home and being barely able to talk because we yelled sooooo loud at games. Our girls basketball team beating Waconda East and winning the Regional in Basketball my junior year – and then meeting up with the ultimate State Champions Lenora the next game and getting beat 72-16. Mr. Garey being our girls basketball coach. Driver’s Ed with Mr. Roe. Senior Sneak to the Ozarks and our principal, Mr. Cooper. Class plays ... Oliver & LaVera ... our WHOLE class getting detention when we were in Jr. High ... and lessons learned like “even if you didn’t actually HELP tip the car up on it’s side, you were there so you still get to help pay for it”.
