History

1960 - I graduated from Downs High School.

1964 - I graduated from Fort Hays State College (BS in Biological Sciences).

1966 - I graduated from the University of Wyoming (MS in Rangeland Management), and went to work for the SCS (now NRCS - Natural Resources Conservation Service) in Worland, WY.

1967 - I transferred to the Forest Service (Newcastle, WY).

1971 - I married Lilas Bartels, who had come to Newcastle as a high school teacher (taught German & English). We were married July 24th, and I was transferred to Chadron (Nebraska National Forest) in August. Unfortunately, Lilas had to give up her 1-year career as a teacher in Newcastle to move to Chadron.

1973 - We welcomed our 1st daughter, Amy, into the family. Amy is now living in Denver and working as a consultant with the Denver Boys and Girls Clubs. She will be married to Eric Daly on July 3, 2010.

1974 - I was transferred to Grand Junction, CO as a District Ranger (Grand Mesa National Forest).

1975 - I was transferred to Meeker, CO as a District Ranger (White River National Forest). As you can see, it was a short stay in Grand Junction.

1976 - We welcomed our 2nd daughter, Laura, into the family. She is now living in Glenwood Springs and working as an ER nurse at Valley View Hospital. She and her husband (Peter Bardshaw) have 2 children - Jeremy (7) and Emily (5). They are the cutest and smartest grand kids in the world.

1979 - I was transferred to Creede, CO as a district ranger (Rio Grande National Forest). Creede had a population of approximately 600 people, was at an elevation of 8900 feet, and pretty close to the end of the world (however, very beautiful).

1985 - I was transferred to Glenwood Springs, CO as a Range Staff in the Supervisors Office (White River National Forest).

1998 - I retired from the Forest Service and opened a rangelands consulting business. I didn't make a lot of money doing this, but had a good time.

2009 - I closed down my consulting business and started being a full-time bum. AND WE LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
